In 2010 Paula Cohen, an Orville Wright Middle School teacher, was tired of looking at a weed patch used for storing school equipment and envisioned a shared garden space that would combine education and community. Her vision, enthusiasm and tireless efforts to bring together the community, school and city led to the creation of our Emerson Avenue Community Garden and school garden. Paula's joy of life, sparkle and enthusiasm touched many lives. Sadly, we lost Paula in October.
Paula’s family recently held a memorial in our garden to commemorate her life. They donated a Honey Fig tree in her memory, which has been planted near the Boy Scout seating area and pollinator garden in the southeast corner of our garden. EACGC and garden friends will hold a memorial and dedication for Paula in early 2019. Details will be announced at a later date.
