Hands-on Learning, Beginners Welcome!

Come learn about choosing tomato varieties, starting seeds indoors, and controlling pests and diseases organically. We’ll also discuss harvesting, storing, and preserving tomatoes. Hands on: plant tomato seeds, transplant seedlings, and save tomato seeds. Instructors: UCCE Master Gardeners Dana H. Morgan and Lucinda Zimmermann. They will share techniques for growing tomatoes in coastal Los Angeles. A board member of Emerson Ave. Community Garden, Dana is also active with SLOLA (Seed Library of Los Angeles) and LABB (Los Angeles Bread Bakers).

  • Location: Emerson Avenue Community Garden, Emerson Ave. at 80th Place, Los Angeles, CA 90045, on the grounds of Wright STEAM Magnet. Street parking is available on Emerson Avenue.
     
  • Suggested Donation: $10.00/person. Children 12-18 accompanied by an adult are welcome. Your donation supports EACGC, a non-profit educational organization.
     
  • Please Bring: a water bottle, sun hat, and a notebook and pen. Close-toed shoes and gardening gloves are recommended. Organic heirloom tomato seedlings will be available for purchase. If you’re currently growing tomatoes, please bring their name or seed packets.
